Evening Read

Chuck and I had a chance to relax outdoors in the evenings at the Marriott. After walking around the gardens, we sat on the back patio to watch the sunset and read.
The reading was great, but getting eaten by mosquitoes was the price we paid.
Here is a picture of our books.
The paperback Chuck read was a 1960 reprint of the 1933 original first paperback ever printed. Look it up here.
It looks like this is where the term Shangri-La began. He finished the book and really liked it.
I haven't finished my read yet--I'm on page 432. It's kind of funny switching back and forth with the B of M.
I told Chuck he ought to post the paperback info on his blog but he says he's too lazy. He's busy reading the owner's manual for my Enclave. It's pretty bad when these new cars are so complicated that we can't use the lighting system without reading the manual.

UAMPS at Thanksgiving Point

Chuck and I spent 3 days last week at the annual conference for city owned power companies--sponsored by UAMPS. All of the meetings were at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
Flowers were gloriously planted on 55 acres and on the grounds of all the buildings in the complex. The weather is so good there for growing and blooming.

WARNING--Do Not Blow this Picture Up. Wrinkles appear bigger than they are!

Grilled Salmon

This is a picture of the prize salmon that Meridy & Nate had on their blog. It was so dreamy tasting. I wish we had some right now--it was one of those tastes that you crave after you've tried it. It tasted sort of like the smoked trout my dad used to make. Notice the apples on top. They didn't take the flames as well as the salmon---they were a little on the crispy side. Thanks to our Henderson kids for coming up to visit and work for a week.

Steak on the Hoof

Last Wednesday we drove to Kolob for the annual East Side Search & Rescue Bar-B-Q. This is the long horned fellow we met on the way to the girl's camp. He claimed the road and we had to go around him -- hoping he wouldn't use those horns like the rodeo bulls we've been watching on TV. Turns out he was friendly. What about the cow bell?
We did have good steak and dutch oven potatoes. Great men are in the Search & Rescue!

Abundant Bunches

We have been blessed with a fine crop of grapes on the arbor and fences this year. The birds love our yard and think we are running a "Tweet Inn". If you're in the mood for a sweet treat come over and pick some.

Peaches for My Peeps

This was one of today's projects. Chuck picked peaches and helped me bottle.
Tonight Shella & Kimber just brought home 4 handsome newly returned missionaries and we peeled about 3 qts of peaches to have over ice cream. Ice cream with peaches on top is delicious enough to win the Peach Day Recipe Contest--especially butter pecan ice cream.

You're All Wet ! & Hit Me With A Wet Noodle !

Our "live close" grandkids and some of their friends had a last of summer swim party today. It was a happy afternoon for these cute kids and their moms.

Hole in the Rock

This is an update on the well. The hole is 78 feet deep and about 6 inches in diameter. There is water standing about 8 feet deep and we are giving it a rest while Chuck gets onto other projects such as yard work, Spanish Branch, power meetings etc.
Today after he had mowed the grass and tried edging (with an gas edger we bought at a yard sale and he said they probably sold it because it didn't work right)he told me that if he couldn't find anything more fun to do than edge grass--he would rather go back to drilling a well.
I think he is missing getting so dirty from head to toe.
